Sacral Nerve Stimulation (SNS) - Simple Procedure to Treat a Big Problem
Sacral nerve stimulation is a treatment option for faecal and/or urinary incontinence (and studies are underway for its use in chronic constipation).
I often used this treatment when other faecal incontinence treatments, for example dietary changes and physiotherapy have provided unsatisfactory relief.
A sacral nerve stimulator works like a pacemaker for the bowel and/or bladder.
It is a small system, surgically placed under the skin, to send mild electrical impulses to a specific nerve via a special medical wire.
I do a test trial for around 10 – 14 days to see if the treatment will work for you before going ahead to a perminant inplant.
